We are California's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Santa Cruz, Monterey, or Salinas raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Salinas pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:
- Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
- Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
- If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
- Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
- When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation
Salinas Raccoon Control Tip: What Can I Do to Keep Raccoons Off My Property?
If you live in the suburbs or a rural area, then you are likely to come across raccoons. They generally live in woodland areas and, if your property is anywhere near there, you are going to have an issue with raccoons.
Of course, that problem becomes more serious when the raccoons are coming onto your property. This puts your family at risk, as your children or pets may be outside at nighttime when a raccoon is making its way across your yard. They could easily be scratched or bitten.
Plus, raccoons are the carriers of a number of diseases. By coming in contact with their feces or urine, you or a member of your family could easily get one of these diseases. This is true even if the raccoon is in around. Plus, being scratched or bitten by a raccoon puts your family at risk of rabies. You want to do everything possible to keep them away, so you want to know what to do to keep raccoons off your property?
Don't Invite Them
The first thing you want to do is ensure that there is nothing that will invite the raccoon onto your property. If there are food sources available, the animal is going to keep coming back. This means you need to ensure that things such as your garbage can, pet dishes, and garden are not an issue.
Your garbage can should be securely fastened closed. If your lid does not fasten onto the top of the garbage can, create something using some bungee cord. Make it tight enough to where the lid is not easy to pull off. Clean around your garbage can, removing any food or other similar debris. Fence in your garden. Keep pet dishes inside at nighttime. Don't do anything that invites a raccoon to come around.

One of the best tools you can use in your arsenal is floodlights. By attaching them to a motion sensor, they will be activated whenever the raccoon comes across your property. The bright light will startle the raccoon, causing it to flee.
These are nocturnal creatures with poor eyesight. They don't like to be out during the light, so a sudden flashing light in their face is going to terrorize them. You can even attach your motion sensor to your sprinkler system. This will work just as well.
Eviction Fluids, Repellants
These products can add an additional level of protection for your property. While they are not sure fire, when used with these other ideas that you have implemented, they can be quite successful.
You can buy commercial repellents and eviction fluids. Both of them act as an irritant to the raccoon, scaring it away. Be aware that these will lose their potency over time or after it rains. So, you will need to frequently reapply them around your property.
Add a fence around your property and your problem will very likely be resolved. It just takes a little bit of money, a little bit of time, and a little bit of perseverance and you can keep these raccoons away.
